Privacy policy
In short: this site sets no cookies, shows no ads and loads nothing from other companies. It counts visits with one statistics script that runs on my own server and stores nothing that identifies you.
Who is responsible
Dávid Dankó, private person, Hungary. Contact for everything on this page: website@linuxengineering.eu. More in the imprint.
What happens when you visit
Visit statistics
Every page loads one script from umami.subpage.eu. That is
Umami, an open-source statistics program that I run myself;
the data stays on my server and is not given to anyone.
It records, for each page view:
- the address of the page and the page you came from
- browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language
- the country, worked out from the IP address
- how long the page was open and how fast it loaded
- a click on a few marked buttons and links, such as "Browse Articles" or a link to GitHub, so I can see which of them are used
It does not use cookies and does not store your IP address. To count visitors without knowing who they are, it turns the IP address and the browser's identification into a scrambled value that cannot be turned back and that changes regularly, so a visit cannot be linked to a later one or to you.
I use these numbers to see which topics are read and which are not. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in knowing that (GDPR Art. 6 (1) f).
To switch the counting off in your browser, open the developer console on this
site and run localStorage.setItem('umami.disabled', 1).
Server log
Like every web server, the one that delivers this site writes a log line for each request: IP address, time, the address requested and the browser's identification. The log is used only to keep the service running and to protect it from abuse. Log lines are deleted after 14 days.
What is stored in your browser
- No cookies.
- The search box downloads a list of manual pages from
docs.linuxengineering.eu, another part of this site, and keeps it in the browser's local storage so it is not downloaded again. It contains nothing about you, and clearing the site data in your browser removes it.
Other sites
The pages load no fonts, scripts, images or players from other companies. Links to GitHub, Docker Hub, YouTube and other platforms are plain links: nothing is sent to them until you click, and from then on their own privacy rules apply.
If you write to me
An email you send is kept as long as it takes to answer it and to follow up on what it was about, and is not passed on.
Who else handles data
The servers are rented from Rackforest Zrt., which handles the data above only as the technical host. Nothing is sold or shared for advertising.
Your rights
You can ask what is stored about you, and have it corrected or deleted; you can object to the statistics; write to the address above and you get an answer within one month. You can also complain to a data protection authority: in Hungary the Nemzeti Adatvédelmi és Információszabadság Hatóság (naih.hu), or the authority of the country you live in.
Changes
This page describes what the site does today. When the site starts to collect something new, for example a newsletter signup, this page is changed first.
